Common Sense Media Gives High Reviews for "Word Party," "Dot.," and "Splash and Bubbles"

In 2016, The Jim Henson Company launched THREE preschool shows. Three! Here's a peek at what Common Sense Media has to say about Word Party, Dot., and Splash and Bubbles. Make sure to click through to their site to get their in-depth ratings!

From Common Sense Media: Parents need to know that Word Party is an educational show for preschoolers from the Jim Henson Company. It stars four adorable, diaper-wearing baby animals who are eager to learn from the "big kids" in the audience, to whom they turn for answers to many questions throughout an episode. This gives kids a certain role model status most other shows for this age group don't have, encouraging them to learn by "teaching" the characters. Along with building vocabulary, the series has positive themes that relate to emotional awareness, friendship, and getting along with others.

Word Party was created by Alex Rockwell and is produced by The Jim Henson Company.

Dot.

5 stars from Common Sense Media

Watch on Sprout and Kid's CBC in Canada

From Common Sense MediaParents need to know that Dot. is based on a picture book by Randi Zuckerberg and centers on a curious 8-year-old who uses technology, math, and science concepts to learn new things, but it's never at the expense of real-world experiences and the people she cares about. For Dot and her family, it's all about balance, so much attention is given to the times when she acknowledges she's ready to unplug. The show sets out to expose kids -- and girls in particular -- to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts in an inviting, age-appropriate way through the likable, self-confident titular character. As a bonus, it presents Dot's parents as her role models and educator, and her friends as positive influences in her life.

Dot. is produced by Canada's Kid's CBC and the Industrial Brothers in association with The Jim Henson Company.

Splash and Bubbles

4 stars from Common Sense Media

Watch on PBS KIDS

From Common Sense Media: Parents need to know that Splash and Bubbles is a preschool series from the Jim Henson Company that explores ocean science and marine biology concepts in fun, age-appropriate ways. Titular characters Splash and Bubbles serve as kids' guides through the deep as they embark on adventures to experience new places and meet new ocean species, learning about different creatures' adaptations to their habitats, as well as unique characteristics like bioluminescence. Every episode ends with a live-action sequence that reinforces the story's concept with real footage of ocean creatures in action. With music, friendly faces, positive messages about healthy expression of emotions, and lots of laughs, this fun series is a great pick to inspire kids' curiosity about the natural world.

Splash and Bubbles was created by John Tartaglia and is produced by The Jim Henson Company and Herschend Enterprises.
